A Whole World Within You

Your gut is home to a vast community of microorganisms that interact with digestion, immunity, and other aspects of health. Caring for that ecosystem means looking beyond a single symptom and considering the many systems that work together to keep us well. Turkey Tail has captured researchers’ attention for its polysaccharides and other compounds, including those being studied for their relationship with the gut microbiome and immune function. We created Gut Guardian to make this fascinating mushroom part of a simple, intentional daily practice—one grounded in curiosity, quality, and a deeper understanding of the body.

Not all turkey tail is created equal

We believe that better ingredients create better daily rituals.

Questions are always welcomed

What is the gut microbiome?
The gut microbiome is the community of microorganisms, including bacteria and other microbes, that live in your digestive tract. These microorganisms play an important role in digestion, nutrient metabolism, immune function, and maintaining a balanced intestinal environment. Supporting a healthy gut microbiome is an important part of overall wellness.
Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) has a long history of use in traditional wellness practices, particularly in East Asia. It is valued for its naturally occurring bioactive compounds, including beta-glucans and polysaccharopeptides, which are being studied for their potential roles in immune function and gut health.
A prebiotic is a substance that beneficial microorganisms in the gut can use, helping influence the composition or activity of the gut microbiome. Certain mushroom polysaccharides may have prebiotic properties, meaning they can interact with gut bacteria and potentially support a healthier intestinal environment.
Turkey Tail and gut health? Research suggests that certain compounds in Turkey Tail, particularly polysaccharopeptides (PSP), may influence the gut microbiome. In a small human study, PSP from Turkey Tail produced changes in the composition of participants’ gut bacteria consistent with prebiotic activity. However, more research is needed to understand the long-term effects and determine how these findings translate into meaningful digestive health benefits.
Mushroom powder is generally made by drying and grinding the mushroom, while an extract is produced through additional processing designed to extract or concentrate certain compounds. A fruiting-body extract specifically uses the mushroom’s fruiting body, the reproductive structure that produces spores. The concentration and composition of bioactive compounds can vary depending on the mushroom, extraction method, and manufacturing process.
Turkey Tail can be included in a wellness routine alongside other functional mushrooms, such as Reishi, Lion’s Mane, or Cordyceps. Each mushroom contains a different combination of bioactive compounds and is being researched for different potential benefits. However, research on combining multiple mushroom supplements is limited, so check the ingredients and serving instructions for each product. If you take medication or have an existing medical condition, consult a healthcare professional before combining supplements.
